Eye Makeup Tips for Hooded Eyes

Hooded eyes have a fold of skin that covers part or all of the crease when eyes are open, which means eyeshadow placed only in the crease can disappear from view. The fix is placement, not avoidance.

Apply with eyes open, not closed

Instead of relying on the natural crease, look straight into a mirror with your eyes open and apply slightly above where the hood sits — that's the area that stays visible.

Use a 'floating' crease technique

Blend a mid-tone shadow just above your actual crease, floating it higher than usual, then blend the edges upward so there's no harsh line when your eyes are open.

Keep liner thin near the inner corner

Thick liner along the whole lash line can get covered by the hood — a thinner line that tapers, slightly thicker toward the outer corner, tends to stay visible.
